DMSO -- is it all the same? was created by Bill
I just received 1/2 a litre of Dimethyl Sulfoxide 99.7% DMSO the grade says REAGENT ACS is this the norm?
I need to know before using it. -- I just received confirmation that this is the correct solution.
Also, I noticed it cystalizing at the top opening in the plastic bolltle it was shipped in -- is this normal as well?
I will transfer it to a glass container asap based on what I have read about DMSO draiwing chemicals out of the plastic.
So much to learn to get everything just right.
UPDATE!
DMSO at 99.7% freezes at 70 degrees & under. I understand that if it is diluted to a 70% solution by adding water it will not freeze. I don't know forsure but in a 4 oz bottle would 3 oz's of DMSO plus 1 oz water be accurate?
Need some info here folks -- thanks.

Sounds like good quality DMSO Bill. I don't know about the crystalizing, I've never seen that. Maybe it is because of the cold.
I you use 3 oz of DMSO and 1 oz of water you'll have a 75/25 mix, which might be close enough.

I am in South Carolina. I ordered some DMSO, but it is 99%, and probably veterinarian grade. I am not sure where to get the more pure form. The one you have...can it be ordered online? My name is Shannon

I just read a report on DMSO and it was concluded that higher than 90% DMSO actually reduced it's effect.
DMSO Penetrates Membranes and Eases Pain
The first quality that struck Dr. Jacob about the drug was its ability to pass through membranes, an ability that has been verified by numerous subsequent researchers.1 DMSO's ability to do this varies proportionally with its strength--up to a 90 percent solution. From 70 percent to 90 percent has been found to be the most effective strength across the skin, and, oddly, performance drops with concentrations higher than 90 percent. Lower concentrations are sufficient to cross other membranes. Thus, 15 percent DMSO will easily penetrate the bladder.2

I just added water to my 99.7% DMSO and the mixture got quite warm at maybe 20% H2O & 80% DMSO in a 4 oz plastic dropper bottle.
Sorry but I really need to know what I am doing with these powerful chemicals.

DMSO gets quite warm when you mix it with water. You can feel the warmth when you put straight DMSO on damp skin as well.
I don't think that there is a reaction with the h2o, but some kind of arrangement of the molecules happens. My guess.
