I've recently acquired 10 pounds of Sodium Chlorite flakes Tech grade. How much HCL at 37% reagent grade do I need to make CDS at 3000ppm if I used the entire 10lbs?
Thanks.
Thanks.

My question to you is where are you getting plastic 55 gallon drums? Because you may need more than one.
Go to rumble and search videos on how to make it first. Then do math. Lots of math.

Let me clarify the question. I don't intend to use the entire 10lbs at one time. I just want to have enough of each part to use all of both of them. Math is not that difficult to do, but time to do it is.

I was sort of kidding but I recall a dream I had where I had to treat a thousand people in my community and had to make an emergency bucket of 3000ppm to treat everyone.
I have only made the ingredients once and probably have 80% of each left. From my old notes of about 3 years ago, this is what I wrote:
Create HCL 5% (activator)
840ml distilled water
160ml of 31% HCL acid
Makes about 1 liter
Transfer to dark bottle and label
Create Sodium Chlorite solution(MMS)22.4%
720 grams warm distilled water
280 grams of flakes
Makes about 1 liter
Transfer to dark bottle and label
Since your HCL is roughly 20% stronger than mine you would want to lower amount to 130ml HCL to 870ml water? double check my numbers to be sure. The nice thing about CDS is any errors in measurements will cause only 2 non-dangerous things to happen: wasted ingredients or longer reaction time.
As to the question of how much acid needed to make 3000ppm for all 10 lbs? You will need to watch videos on that because there are variations in methods. Take your 10lbs of flakes, convert to grams, divide into the 280grams for 1 liter.Use the same formula to calculate acid needed.

I did the quick math and it looks like you will need 2 liters of 37% acid (2.1 liter for 5%, under 2 liters for 4%)

Any examples of the math with units? Are the calculations by volume, mass or moles?
Thanks again.
