my supplier provided me with 5 % so I am using 5 % and it works fine. I do find lemon juice activating my sodium chlorite much better than the the hcl though.

Lemon juice has citric acid and Vitamin C in it. The citric acid is very good at activating sodium chlorite, but the Vitamin C rapidly neutralizes the ClO2 that is produced. 50% citric acid alone would be better than using lemon juice, but many people find that it can cause stomach issues and tastes bad, so HCl is used.
