Testing MMS1? was created by GMDodaro
I've read several descriptions of the color of activated MMS1.  It should be amber colored after 20-30 seconds when activated with 50% citric acid.  But one of the descriptions described the "amber" color as the color of a beer bottle, which is much darker than my solution.  The only time I've seen that dark color is when I was interrupted and inadvertently left the activated solution for 15 minutes.
The color of mine is generally amber, something like the attached image clip.

The color you see when making MMS1, activated for 30 seconds, will depend on how many drops are used and how confined the solution is; spread out or pooled in a corner of the mixing container. And, the color intensity will be less when looking down on the solution vs looking through the solution.

This is a photo of a 4 drop MMS1 dose in a test tube. Note the CLO2 yellow gas above the solution.

Thanks, mine is close to that color when looking through, but probably a shade lighter.  Does it need more sodium chlorite solution or more citric acid?

Merry Christmas.  I wasn’t expecting a reply on the holiday.  ;0)

If the color you see is close to my photo at 3 drops of each, you should be fine.

I have close to the same color, but mine is getting cloudy.
I used 4 drops mms and 4 dropc HCl. This color is after around 1-2 min.

It seems like something is precipitating from the reaction.
What are your thoughts on this?

CLO2 gas maybe?

A bit cloudy yes. Your MMS may not have been filtered after preparation. You can use it anyway.
