Just received my shipment of 80% SC and Citric Acid and realised that my containers use a rubber seal and not plastic.
Will the SC or Citric Acid corrode the rubber over time?

I am using this product to store the ingredients in:
www.checkers.co.za/All-Departments/Household/Kitchen/Glassware/Glass-Storage/Eerin-633-Hermetico-Preserve-Glass-Jar-500ml/p/10475070EA

Thanks

@stu77000

Use the search function for Ball leak-proof lids.

That's what CLO2 recommends to store your SC flakes and Citric Acid in.

I was able to buy them at Walmart in Canada.

Thank you!

Found them on Amazon and they ship to South Africa.
I did try and locate some airtight lids when I first started looking but couldn't find any in SA.

Will see what others have to say about the rubber and if it's a no, then will go with the plastic lids.

Hi stu77000,

Here is @CLO2 actual advice:

"For long term storage, buy 80% sodium chlorite flakes and citric acid crystals. SC is supposed to last 20 years and I have used 9 year old CA to make CDS at the same CLO2 ppm as using fresh CA. Store both in glass bottles with plastic lids such as Mason jars and the new Ball Leak-Proof black plastic lids. Keep cool and dark."

In my case I bought the Ball leak-proof lids and the Ball 16 oz. glass mason jars for long term storage of SC flakes and CA crystals.

Glad you were able to find them on Amazon.

Hi stu77000

I use the same jars for storage but I use silicon seals instead of the rubber ones..

Good luck

I bought almost the same jar as you have--also with rubber seal. And yeah, the rubber seal dried after the first CDS production.
I managed to find sheets of silicon of the right thickness to buy. And then I used the old rubber seal as a template and cut out new seals in silicon. Works fine.
Good Luck!

Can you remember what thickness silicone you used?

@stu77000
I measured the thickness of the rubber seal. My seal is 3mm, but yours may have a different thickness.

What about something like this  Lumeno Stretch and Seal Silicone Tape Clear ?
And then just use it to cover the rubber instead of remove it?

From the site:
"Lumeno Stretch tape is Silicone based repair tape. The tape is self fusing and can handle pressure up to 49Bars (700 PSI) comes in 5 meter roles and is impervious to fuels, oils, acids and solvents. The tape is also UV resistant."

How wide is that? If it is as wide as the rubber seal, it may be worth a try. Otherwise you will end up with a gap between the tapes or overlaps.
